I recently got a laptop running Windows 10, downloaded Quicken and was transported back in time to 1995. I've hardly had any issues with it. On mac, Quicken looks reasonably modern, has a clean, intuitive layout and has all the functionality you'd expect from a paid personal finance software.

To my knowledge, it's never been re-written.just added on to.That's why Quicken Windows looks like it's from the 1990's. And each yearly version added features and conveniences and minor tweaks to the user interface.so the entire code has roots going back that far. And there was no Quicken Home and Business version then.no tags.no scheduled reminders.So.remember this.Quicken Windows has been based on that GUI since Day 1 when it became a Windows product. I still hated Quicken Mac 2016. A complete mess either way and took me weeks to get it up and running with accurate balances, albeit with broken transfers.Didn't matter. Qif files into the Mac version and just started over with all my investment accounts. Converting my data from Windows to Mac was a mess.and I basically wound up importing all my banking accounts as individual. It was missing a zillion Windows features and was a really poor product in my opinion. The interface, although fresh and clean, is sophomoric and basically made for idiots, I thought. My Quicken Mac was a disaster. My Quicken Windows converted in minutes. And towards the end of 2019, they started improving the report engine so at least I could include or exclude transfers in cash flow reports.When my versions of Quicken 2017 (Windows and Mac) were sunsetted and had online services ended, I bit the bullet and purchased a 27 month subscription from Amazon. The initial reporting engine was still horrendous, but I could see very slow improvements being released. ![]() ![]() Very laboriously slow.So.I have way too much time on my hands.so I use both versions.PS The conversion of data from Quicken Mac to Quicken Windows has been broken for a zillion years.and Quicken Inc has no desire to fix it. And development is like watching paint dry. But it's not a polished complete software by any means. Five years.Could I use Quicken Mac if push came to shove? Sure. Pop up blocker extension for google chrome macWhat I DO want is my required income and expenses in the budget.and have the opportunity to just lump together every other discretionary non-required amount in an "Everything Else" bucket like they do in the Quicken Windows version.So, sure.I might be within the constraints of my Quicken Mac budget the way it is now.but if I have other non-budgeted items that I have to spend on, then it never shows in the budget and I have no idea where I'm at for the month.These are things requested since Quicken Mac 2015 replace Quicken Essentials which replaced Quicken Mac 2007. You have to include each and every category and create some sort of a budgeted amount for each and every category.I don't want that. But why?Second, no budget support for including or excluding transfers in cash flow only accounts, as I noted previously.Third, where the hell does my discretionary non-budgeted spending go in Quicken Mac? No where. As someone in my sixties, I doubt I'll live long enough to actually see it happen. Every Quicken Mac update I keep hoping it will happen, but I've pretty much just given up hope that it ever will. Six years and they can't get to this, despite the Quicken Mac product manager saying for years that it's being addressed.
